My Story
The Road to Freedom
Not too long ago,
I was watching an episode of Family Feud when the prompt came up:
“Name something you really shouldn’t laugh in the middle of.”
Thelma, an older lady on the Auguar family team, leaned into the microphone and said slowly:
“…having sex, Steve.”
DING!! "An intense boink" was the #3 answer and scored her team 14 points.
My road to sexual liberation...
...was paved in ideology like this. Growing up as a pastor’s kid, I wasn’t taught much about sex or pleasure aside from abstinence before marriage, so I carried a lot of curiosity shrouded in religious shame. Some of my earliest memories include kissing a boy in pre-k and suggesting he eat butter (...which he did…winky face) and getting in trouble in the first grade for writing an erotic story. My teacher made me call my mom at work and read it to her. I can’t exactly remember what happened after that, but let me tell you, it wasn’t good. Shame!
So much of the help I offer has been the source of my own healing. Learning to take pleasure in pleasure and show up as an erotic, confident, soft and secure woman. Learning to embrace femininity and see its power. Learning what spirituality means to me outside of the context of my religious upbringing. Learning to live from center.
So, what called me to this work on a professional level?
If I had to pinpoint a catalytic moment that shifted my future, it would be sitting in my mom’s crafting room and having the conversation turn to sex. We talked about her sex life and as the conversation began, I felt a moment of discomfort. Then I took a deep breath and continued listening. She was sharing with me in a way that we had never shared before, and I was able to offer insight from my own experiences as an adult. In that moment, I realized that one of my superpowers is to create an open space for folks to talk vulnerably about sex and intimacy. Wow, what a gift!
And I want to share this gift
The abolitionist within me aspires to guide people back to their bodies and promote PRESENCE by realizing the connection between mind (awareness), body (aliveness), and spirit (self-acceptance). Presence includes your whole self and together we can focus on the erotic.
Thank you for taking the time to read more about me.
